Cardiac Collaboration at Rabin with Prof. Ran Kornowski and Prof. Alain Cribier

Prof. Alain Cribier, a world renowned cardiologist, a leader in the field of interventional cardiology and former Head of the Department of Interventional Cardiology at the University Hospital Charles Nicolle in Rouen France, recently visited the Interventional Cardiology Institute at Rabin Medical Center, directed by Prof. Ran Kornowski.

During his visit he gave a special presentation on the use of Trans-Catheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) and worked together with the staff of the Interventional Cardiology Institute and Rabin Medical Center's cardiothoracic surgeons to successfully perform a number of these procedures on severely ill cardiac patients.

Prof. Cribier is a true pioneer in the field of aortic and mitral valvuloplasty, having performed the first ever aortic balloon valvuloplasty in 1985, the first ever mitral commissurotomy in 1995, and the first ever percutaneous valve replacement in aortic stenosis in 2002. He also co-designed the Edwards Cribier percutaneous aortic valve, which has been implanted in 8,000 patients worldwide.

Prof. Ran Kornowski said of Prof. Cribier's visit to Israel: "The Interventional Cardiology Institute at Rabin Medical Center has performed till now close to ninety TAVI procedures at Rabin Medical Center and we are truly encouraged by the clinical results so far. This is a new area, which developed thanks to the invention of Prof. Cribier and his colleagues, and the use of this technique is expected to increase dramatically in the future, so we are very excited with this collaboration."
