Prime Minister Naftali Bennett with Dr. Osnat Fono,
Deputy Director of Rabin Medical Center
in the Emergency Underground Hospital.
Prime Minister Bennett toured the Rabin Medical Center's Emergency Underground Hospital with Deputy Director Dr. Osnat Fono who explained, "This was the hospital parking lot that we transformed into an underground hospital, because when there are missiles you have to take the patients to a safe place. On October 7 we also started getting rockets, and within two hours we took all the high floor patients down here. We have the ability to put all the patients from the whole hospital underground."
Prime Minister Bennett was impressed with the incredible effort the hospital made to create a safe space for its patients. "It's something that anyone who's not Israeli won't understand; essentially we are three floors underground, and within two hours you managed to move hundreds of patients here down here to be safe."
Prime Minister Bennett also visited the maternity ward, where nurses and medical staff are working double shifts and overtime to cover all the residents who have been called up to serve in the army. Despite the intense pressure and stress of this, the nurses on duty were positive and optimistic.
One nurse told Prime Minister Bennett, "My son is in Gaza, and he told me, I am fighting for the people behind me, not against the people in front of me. I think that this generation is going to be the best generation we've had because the war will end, and they're going to come back with determination to fix Israel with ideals. They'll have a better perspective of what matters in life."
